Conditioner For Dry Scalp

Where you put conditioner matters as much as which one you buy. Applied from mid-length to ends it hydrates the part of your hair that dryness damages most. Applied at the root it leaves weight and residue exactly where the shampoo just cleared them. Same product, opposite result.

At ACTIIV we built RECOVER as a lightweight conditioner designed to follow a scalp-focused wash. This page covers how to use it properly and what to stop doing. If you want to know what makes a scalp conditioner different in the first place, our scalp conditioner page covers the formulation side.

How To Apply It

Mid-Length To Ends Only

Apply RECOVER from mid-length to ends, never directly to the scalp or root area. Direct scalp application leaves the residue that adds weight back to a scalp the shampoo just cleared. For fine or thinning hair, starting at mid-length also prevents the flat, weighed-down feeling that makes hair look worse immediately after washing. The scalp does not need conditioning — the lengths do.

Leave For 30 To 60 Seconds

Give the formula time to smooth the cuticle before rinsing. Rinsing immediately reduces the benefit; the 30-to-60-second window is the contact time the aloe leaf base, hydrolysed keratin, and ginger root extract need to work on the strand. Longer does not improve it — the uptake happens early.

Rinse Thoroughly, With Cool Water

Complete rinsing removes residue from both the scalp and the strand surface. Use cool or lukewarm water for the final rinse rather than hot: hot water reopens the cuticle the conditioner just smoothed and strips the moisture it locked in. This is the smallest change on the list and one of the more noticeable ones.

Use It After Every Wash

Skipping conditioner after a REMEDY session leaves the lengths exposed, and dry lengths break during detangling — which then looks like a hair problem rather than the scalp routine it actually came from. Conditioning every wash is what keeps the two halves of the routine in step.

Four Habits That Undo The Routine

  • Deep conditioning masks at the scalp: Rich masks applied at the root leave the heaviest residue of anything in a normal routine. Lengths only.
  • Leaving conditioner on far longer than directed: It does not improve the result and, with heavier formulas, can leave more behind than it takes away.
  • Using a conditioner built for thick or damaged hair: It will do its job, which is to add weight — the opposite of what a dry-scalp routine needs.
  • Skipping conditioner altogether: The most common reaction to a bad experience with a heavy formula, and it trades a scalp problem for a breakage one.

What Is In RECOVER

An aloe leaf hydrating base delivers water-based moisture without root residue. Ginger root and green tea extract complete the botanical complex. Hydrolysed keratin reinforces strand integrity and reduces breakage on fine or dryness-weakened hair. Colour-safe, vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free.

It is designed to follow REMEDY, which is SLS-free and colour-safe and combines peppermint oil and menthol for cooling relief with jojoba esters, finely milled coconut shell powder, and niacinamide. REMEDY is used two to three times per week with a three-minute leave-on.

The Duo

The REMEDY Dandruff Shampoo & Conditioner Duo bundles both in one 7 oz purchase. SLS-free, colour-safe, backed by our 90-day money-back guarantee.

The Trio

The Dandruff + Dry Itchy Scalp Trio adds the ACTIIV Scalp Massager — a silicone tool that helps work product evenly through the scalp and aids the gentle exfoliation that keeps buildup from accumulating. Rated 4.39 stars, colour-safe, pH-balanced, SLS-free.
